SENDER - RECEIVER was an instruction-based project exploring collaboration, craft and notions of belonging, activated by a set of instructions disseminated over Instagram.
These instructions formed a social space over the internet to explore collaboration from a distance. Considering the value of physical and digital gestures, the instructions were accessible, objective on the surface yet subjective in reality. The invitation itself mapped a bodily gesture of each collaborator and invited interference via individual interpretation of the same information.
Communal making echoes the collectiveness of island communities where people’s homes and community halls are used as craft spaces. The internet now acts as an integral meeting place for people and ideas and allows notions of ‘central’ to be redefined. This project celebrates the willingness of strangers to form community and support each others creativity from afar.
