Half oot afore I’ da left
An Tobar, Isle of Mull
6 April - 1 June 2018
Vivian Ross-Smith's grandfather was a Scott and a Mull man. The exhibition ‘half oot afore i' da left’, considers her family ties with Mull and Shetland via Lower Leogh, her mother’s old croft in Fair Isle.
Opening at lambing time, the exhibition title refers to the mark cut into the ear of the hill sheep of Lower Leogh. Through painting, textiles, metalwork and sculpture; the series of work explores life, death, illness, healing, and dependency through crofting imagery and the handwriting of her mother and grandfather.
Through experiences of life and death our memory and relationship to place changes.
